The idea behind the clay pyramid is for children to have a hands on participation in the building of something that "names" one of the oldest and grandest human achievements ever made. This introduction the "noun" could also be an introduction into Egyptian history along with the theories of how the Pyramids were built.
The clay comes in square bars that can be cut into cubes for the construction. You might illustrate the plan for construction with the bead material. Start with the 4 square on the bottom, then the 3 square, then the 2 square and then the 1 square for the top stone. The math of this would be 16+9+4+1=30 beads. So 30 cubes would need to be cut for the pyramid construction. NOTE: A knife could be used to cut the cubes but cheese cutter would be better. Experimentation with the cheese cutter and clay should be allowed for other pyramid creations.
